Friedrich Haas - Artist

I was born in Hoboken, NJ in 1959. I attended the Stevens Institute of Technology where I received a BA in Chemical Biology. It was at Stevens that I had my first one-person art show.

My path than led to Todd Shipyards in Brooklyn where I worked up to On-Board Machinist First Class. When the shipyard closed, I went into the housing industry, and worked up to a site boss on special projects and restoration specialties. All the while, still showing new works at conventions and then breaking into the illustration business with collectible card games, role-playing games, and story illustration.

At present I’m the Facilities Manager at a local Charter School, and teach Fencing three days a week. I have a family and a pride of cats. I don’t recognize too many limits, just skills I haven’t yet mastered.

I work in pencil, pen, acrylic and the occasional oil. I’ve done portraits, story or product illustration, product and packaging design, the occasional ceramic, designed, sculpted and cast miniatures, written poetry and short stories, illustrated games from western to medieval to modern to future. Combining the jobs that I have done, I have gone from an empty lot, to getting the home built, decorated, the garden, the family portraits, to the games that are played.
